What is a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Facial?

PRP facial is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that involves extracting a small amount of the patient's own blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting the platelet-rich plasma back into the skin. The concentrated platelets are rich in growth factors, which stimulate the body's natural healing response and promote the production of collagen and elastin.

Benefits of PRP Facials

PRP facials offer a range of benefits for those looking to improve their skin's appearance and overall health. Here are some of the benefits:

  • Improve skin texture and tone

  • Reduce dark circles

  • Better skin elasticity

  • Less visible fine lines and wrinkles

  • Erase acne scars

  • More hydrated skin

A what kind of facial?
Why is it called a vampire facial?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facials are often called vampire facials because they use your body’s own lifeblood- literally- to amplify your glow. The term was coined by Kim Kardashian after she received her first one and posted it to social media. The photo went viral and sparked a trend of referring to the treatment as a vampire facial because of the use of the patient's own blood.

While the term is not medically accurate, it has become a popular way to refer to PRP facials in the media and popular culture. It's worth noting that the actual PRP facial procedure is not bloody or gruesome, and it's performed in a sterile and controlled environment by trained professionals.

The Science behind PRP Facials

Platelets are known for their role in clotting blood, but they also contain hundreds of proteins known as growth factors, which are involved in healing damaged tissue. PRP facials work by using the body's own platelets to stimulate collagen production, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture and tone, and increase skin elasticity.

During a PRP facial appointment, our trained professionals will take a small amount of your blood and process it in a centrifuge to isolate the plasma, which is rich in growth factors and other beneficial compounds. This concentrated plasma is then applied to your skin through micro-needling, a technique that uses a small device with tiny needles to create micro-injuries on the surface of the skin. The micro-injuries stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are key components of healthy, youthful-looking skin.

PRP facials are a safe and effective option for most patients looking to improve their skin's appearance and overall health. At Pathways Within Wellness, we are committed to helping our clients look and feel their best.

The Pathways Within PRP process

To begin, we will take a small amount of your blood and process it to isolate the plasma while you relax in a comfortable and sterile environment. Once the plasma is ready, we will apply it to your skin through micro-needling. The micro-needling process may cause some temporary redness and mild discomfort, but we use numbing cream to minimize any discomfort.

After the treatment, you may experience some redness and mild swelling, but this usually subsides within a few hours to a day. To maximize effects and protect your skin, It’s best that you really lean into those vampire vibes and avoid the sun for a couple of days.
